P2-D- Style-
In Star Wars- The Force Awakens, the style of the film was very similar to the orginal trilogy. However, fans seem to agree that the graphics within the new film were much better than the orginals. The galaxy felt more expansive, characters were taking in exciting new directions such as more gender equality within the film and it passing the Bechtel test and ethnicity equality, with the first black character; Finn in the new film. Also, there were plenty of twists that added depth to the film. However, the style of the film is very similar the originals, making the film nostalgic which original fans this will be popular.
Mark Hamill says “The most interesting aspect from my point of view is that [‘Star Wars’] is now in the hands of the generation who were fans. It’s the next generation of filmmakers who were sort of weaned on these pictures.” The film still features an element of space opera and action within it.
JJ Abrams has captured lots of similarities between the original Star Wars trilogy and The Force Awakens. It borrows a lot of effects from George Lucas’ 1977 in many subtle and also obvious ways. Some other ways that the films are similar is:
- In both the trilogy and also Star Wars-The Force Awakens, there is a much loved hero who is tortured by an evil character to retrieve information.
There is an old, wise warrior who has to explain the force to the next generation.
- There is a mysterious father figure who is cut down by someone who he used to be close to, who has turned to the dark side. (Star Wars- Darth Vader, Star Wars Force Awakens: Kylo Ren.
These examples show striking similarities between both the original films and The Force Awakens.
The reason for JJ Abrams making these similarities is that fans of the original trilogy would be able to relate to the new film and feel nostalgic.
